acs national legislative ambassador

September 2022 – Present
One of my favorite political advocacy roles is serving as a National Youth Legislative Ambassador for the American Cancer Society! I was inspired to delve into cancer political action after a member of my family was diagnosed with colon cancer. As an ambassador, I lead a national network of youth volunteers, organize fundraisers across the country, and lobby directly for Senate and House bills surrounding federal cancer treatment programs.

Hands down, the highlight of my work has been traveling to Washington D.C. as an American Cancer Society lobbyist. At the House of Representatives building, I shaped my experiences into a testimony that persuaded every member of Congress I met with to officially sponsor a bill investing over $2,000,000 in cancer treatment research. I also met 1:1 with numerous politicians, including Representative Mike Kelly (PA-16).

Additionally, I heard from prominent politicians and leading oncology researchers at the Congressional Summit on Childhood Cancer. Outside of government work, I focus on raising awareness for the American Cancer Society’s work, such as by running ACS advocacy fair booths.

Besides gaining political experience, I have forged lasting bonds with the people I’ve met through the American Cancer Society. Many of my fellow ambassadors have pediatric cancer or are survivors, and it brings me so much joy to witness their triumph over their challenges and become vocal leaders for political change.
